DETROIT- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Ambassador Bridge arrested a Canadian citizen and trusted traveler participant (NEXUS), Monday who was wanted by the Dearborn Police Department for sexual assault.  

Sarmad Shrouzeh of Windsor, Ontario applied for entry into the U.S using one of many dedicated commuter lanes.  CBP officers determined Shrouzeh to be subject to a warrant of arrest issued by the Dearborn Police Department.  The officers verified the validity of the warrant which was issued earlier the same day. Once confirmed, Shrouzeh was arrested by CBP and turned over to the Dearborn Police Department. 

“The NEXUS program and other trusted traveler programs have strict criteria for participation.” said Roderick Blanchard, CBP Port Director for Detroit. “Having a criminal record or past violation of CBP laws/regulations/policies may render you ineligible for participation.”

The NEXUS program allows pre-screened travelers expedited processing by United States and Canadian officials at dedicated processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry with a minimum of customs and immigration questioning.  Among other rules for participation, every occupant in the vehicle must present their card, and are required to declare everything in their possession.
